The northern border is being reinforced with assets from the southern border
The southern border was in chaos for four years under former President Joe Biden.
President Donald Trump led a dramatic turnaround there in less than two months after taking office.
Illegal border crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border plummeted by 96% from the same period last year.
Border crossings there are at their lowest levels in decades.
Now the Trump administration is turning its attention to the vast northern border with Canada.
“Border Czar” Tom Homan announced that the Trump administration will be “reassigning assets” to the northern border to stop the flow of drugs and illegal aliens during an appearance on Fox News.
“Well, like I said, the southern border is down 96%, the northern border is down by about 74% so we have more work to do up there,” Homan said. “I’ve met with the leadership in Canada on two different occasions, they are stepping up border enforcement, they are stepping up the fentanyl enforcement, but not enough.”
Trump has been pressuring Canada to do more to stop illegal immigration and fentanyl flooding across the border with the threat of tariffs.
“The President wants more and we expect more. So, I grew up on the northern border, it’s personal to me. So, we need to do more on the northern border now that we’ve got the southern border locked down,” Homan explained.
America’s northern border gets much-needed attention
The Biden administration began pulling assets from the northern border to help the crisis at the southern border.
Illegal border crossings began to spike at the northern border under Biden.
The Swanton Border Sector of the northern border covering New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire had more encounters with illegal aliens during the first 10 months of 2024 than the previous 13 years combined.
Homan said the administration would do what needed to be done to secure the northern border.
“And instead of stealing agents from the northern border to deal with the crisis on the southern border, now we’re gonna start reassigning assets to the northern border, manpower and technology, to make sure that the northern border is safe too,” Homan stated.
Illegal aliens are trying to enter the country through Canada because the Trump administration is sealing the southern border.
The Border Patrol apprehended about 23,700 illegal aliens entering from Canada during the last fiscal year.
Only 2,200 illegal aliens were caught at the northern border in 2022.
Canada’s lax visa requirements led to illegal aliens flying into the country and trying to cross into the United States from there.
Illegal aliens are now crossing in remote areas of the 5,500-mile-long northern border that typically weren’t affected by illegal immigration.
