Democrats think they have an opening on tariffs against Donald Trump

President Donald Trump ran on an America first agenda of securing fair trade deals with the rest of the world. 

Trump has played hardball with Canada and Mexico by threatening them with a tariff on every product from their countries by 25% unless they do more to stop the illegal aliens and fentanyl from pouring into the United States. 

He pushed back the tariffs on products that are covered by the USMCA trade treaty from those countries until April. 

Meanwhile, China was slapped with a 20% tariff by Trump. 

Wall Street has seen a correction at the start of Trump’s Presidency that has Democrats giddy. 

They point to that as a sign that the Trump economy is teetering on the brink.

Democrats are predicting that Trump’s tariffs will reignite inflation and drive up prices for consumers. 

So far, inflation has cooled in the latest report. 

Democrats are making a bet that tariffs will sink Trump’s Presidency. 

Stephen A. Smith says Democrats are sunk if they’re wrong about tariffs

ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith was dismayed about the sorry state of the Democrat Party during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. 

He went off about the laundry list of problems plaguing Democrats.

“One of the problems. One of the many problems with the Democratic Party. Outside of not being known as the party that caters to the working class,” Smith began. “Outside of being known as the party that leans so far left. You made Trump seem normal. Outside of all of those things.”

Smith called Democrats for having no message other than opposing everything that Trump does. 

“Here’s the ultimate crime that’s going on. They’re literally sitting up on Capitol Hill. Not all, but most of them. They’re the party. They’re literally sitting up on Capitol Hill acting like their only job is to be opposite of Donald Trump in every way, shape, form, and fashion,” Smith explained. 

He argued that not being Trump wouldn’t be enough for them to win the 2026 Midterm Elections or the White House in 2028. 

“I’m trying to tell them. I don’t think I’m alone. But when the conservatives like yourself and various others are uttering this stuff,” Smith told Hannity. “It pains me to say, you’re right. And they better do something about it.”

“Because in the end, and Lord help them if the tariffs situation works in Trump’s favor,” Smith added. “They’re really not going to have a leg to stand on then. Lord help them if that happens.”

If Trump is able to steer the economy in the right direction, then Democrats will be in deep trouble. 

He was elected in large part to solve the cost of living crisis that former President Joe Biden created. 

Donald Trump delivering lower prices and getting the shaky Biden economy back on track would leave the political establishment with egg on their faces.
