Wheel of Fortune’s producer quickly tapped American Idol host Ryan Seacrest to replace him.
Fans of Sajak will get one final chance to see him hosting the game show he made famous.
He’s preparing for a “Final Spin” by hosting Celebrity Wheel of Fortune in primetime for a week beginning April 30.
Celebrities including Josh Gad, Regina Hall, Ellie Kemper, Justin Long, Joe Manganiello, Katharine McPhee, and others will compete to win $1 million for their favorite charity.
Sajak’s longtime co-host and letter turner Vanna White will join him for one final time behind the wheel.
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune will be followed by the third annual Jeopardy! Masters tournament featuring top-ranked contestants.
Sajak became the host of Wheel in 1981 after working as a weatherman on Los Angeles TV.
White joined him the next year as the letter turner.
The pair became TV royalty after starring together for decades on the hit game show.
White signed a contract extension that will keep her on the show through the 2025-2026 season.
“It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade,” Sajak said after he retired last year. “And I’ve always felt that the privilege came with a responsibility to keep this daily half-hour a safe place for family fun. No social issues, no politics, nothing embarrassing, I hope. Just a game.”
“What an honor to have played even a small part in all that. Thank you for allowing me into your lives,” Sajak added.
Pat Sajak’s swan song was delayed by ABC
Sajak was supposed to host his final season of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune last fall.
ABC delayed the game show, Press Your Luck, and ABC News’ Scamanda to air episodes of Monday Night Football.
Fans have had nearly an entire season to get used to Seacrest as the host alongside Vanna White.
The American Idol host knew he had big shoes to fill when he took over for Sajak.
“With this game show, it’s such a success and has been for generations. You don’t mess with it, just don’t mess with it. Just get out of the way, say ‘Good evening’ and let’s play,'” Seacrest told People before taking over as host.
“I think I have so much adrenaline rushing through my body. Excitement is the word because it’s such a phenomenal show. I’ve been a fan. I grew up watching the show. and I can’t wait to take over after the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest added.
Fans of Pat Sajak will have one last time to see him host Wheel of Fortune before he rides off into the sunset.
