McConnell takes Zelensky’s side in dispute with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky waltzed into the Oval Office and blew up President Trump’s plan for peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky whined that America hadn’t done enough for Ukraine and refused to sign a rare earth minerals deal because it didn’t include an American guarantee of going to war with Russia in the future.
A visibly frustrated President Trump threw Zelensky and his handlers out of the White House.
Trump slammed Zelensky for wanting to keep the war going for personal gain, as an end to the war meant an end to the American taxpayer money flowing into Ukraine.
President Trump then announced that he was suspending military aid and intelligence sharing with the Ukrainians as they were now the obstacle to peace.
Mitch McConnell doesn’t want to see a negotiated end to the war.
McConnell supports a blank check for an endless war.
And McConnell certainly took issue with President Trump’s negotiating tactics.
McConnell falsely claimed President Trump was aiding Russia in its war effort.
“Freezing lethal assistance and intelligence support to Ukraine made Russia’s job easier. It was easier to hit Ukraine’s defenders – along with its schools, hospitals, and nurseries,” McConnell ranted.
McConnell then tread over tired territory that Trump was somehow favoring Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“What welcome news for an autocrat whose grip on power depends on the endurance of a wartime economy,” McConnell added.
McConnell then misleadingly claimed Europe spent more money on the war in Ukraine than America when that European total was inflated by commitment to spend money down the line in the future while America was shoveling money out the door now.
“In real terms, total European aid is double U.S. spending. More military aid than America. More budgetary assistance than America. Period,” McConnell claimed.
McConnell then joined the media whining about President Trump ignoring calls to declare Russia the aggressors and Putin a dictator, as Trump argued calling people names didn’t get them to the negotiating table.
“Why should we be less willing to call Russia out for its brutal aggression than we are to call Hamas or Hizballah out for theirs?” McConnell asked.
Trump’s tactics paid off.
Zelensky announced that Ukraine was ready to sign the rare earth minerals deal and that it was committing to supporting an American backed proposal for a 30-day cease fire.
“During today’s talks, the U.S. side proposed taking an even bigger first step—a 30-day full interim ceasefire, not only stopping missile, drone, and bomb attacks, not only in the Black Sea, but also along the entire front line. Ukraine is ready to accept this proposal—we see it as a positive step and are ready to take it. Now, it is up to the United States to convince Russia to do the same. If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will take effect immediately,” Zelensky wrote on X.
Once Zelensky agreed to Trump’s terms, the United States resumed intelligence sharing and security assistance to put pressure on Russia to get to yes in the hopes of taking another step toward ending this war.
