Biden’s EPA gave billions to a group linked to Stacey Abrams
The Biden Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tried to quietly shovel as much out the door as possible before President Donald Trump took office.
Former President Joe Biden created a $25 billion slush fund run by the EPA known as the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund with money from the $1 trillion Inflation Reduction Act.
The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund doled out grants for environmental justice to nonprofits controlled by prominent Democrats.
A group linked to Georgia Democrat activist Stacey Abrams, a two-time failed Gubernatorial candidate, was awarded a grant from the Biden EPA.
The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund gave Power Forward Communities a $2 billion grant in April 2024 to help disadvantaged communities switch to electric appliances to reduce carbon emissions.
Power Forward Communities was a newly created group that was tied to Abrams.
It raised $200 in 2023 before the Biden EPA gave it $2 billion.
All the group had to do was complete a section on creating a budget to fulfill the EPA’s grant application.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin froze the $2 billion grant as part of a crackdown on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
Power Forward Communities filed a lawsuit against the EPA asking for the money to be restored.
The lawsuit said the Trump EPA “claimed, without basis, that the program is tainted by conflicts of interest and disparaged [Power Forward Communities] based on alleged ties to a former Democratic politician.”
Abrams has distanced herself from the group in the media.
Politico reported that she had no involvement with Power Forward Communities and her spokesman told the Washington Post she had no role with the group.
Abrams and her allies want to make it seem like she had no role in the group.
Stacey Abrams was pivotal in securing a Biden EPA grant
Power Forward Communities was telling a different story when the group was applying for a grant from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
The group was created in October 2023 by a coalition of environmental activist groups including Rewiring America where Abrams was a top advisor and a senior counsel.
Rewiring America director of partnerships Ian Magruder praised Abrams for her role in the application for the EPA grant for Power Forward Communities in a LinkedIn post uncovered by the Washington Free Beacon.
“For the past few months our team has been hard at work on this monumental application for $9.5 billion in funding to electrify more than half a million homes, especially in lower income and disadvantaged communities,” Magruder wrote. “Stacey Abrams played a pivotal role.”
A few months later EPA awarded Power Forward Communities the $2 billion grant.
The Biden EPA cited the work that Abrams did with the group DeSoto, Georgia where a couple dozen homes received electric appliances to replace gas-powered ones as justification for the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grant.
Stacey Abrams and her allies are desperately trying to distance her from Power Forward Communities now that it’s under an investigation by the Justice Department and the FBI.
