Democrats are trying to search for a path forward for the party after getting shellacked in the 2024 Election.
New York Times columnist Ezra Klein and Atlantic magazine writer Derek Thompson offered up their plan to get Democrats back on track in their book Abundance.
They argued that Democrats’ big government schemes have failed since the 1970s because of crippling environmental regulations and red tape.
Democrats’ bad governance in blue states and inability to get anything done is a serious liability for the Party.
Klein and Thompson identify a major problem for the Democrat Party but don’t realize there’s no solution.
Big government’s failure to get anything done is an inherent problem with the inefficiency of government.
Socialism never works even if its supporters think it can be done smarter.
They propose making government work smarter as the solution to these woes.
Of course, this ignores that major Democrat interest groups like Big Labor and environment activists would never sign off on any of their government reforms.
Jon Stewart is stunned by red tape causing Biden’s broadband proposal to fail
Klein discussed one of the biggest failures under former President Joe Biden during an appearance on comedian Jon Stewart’s The Weekly Show podcast.
The 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill passed with the help of RINOs like U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) included $42 billion for rural broadband to buy off the votes of RINOs.
No one was connected to the internet through the program three years after the bill passed.
Klein explained to Stewart the massive amounts of red tape that states had to deal with to build broadband internet under the program.
“The letters of intent, the requests for planning grants, then the review, approval, and awarding of the planning grants, then the five year action plans. In between that, the federal government has to put forward a map saying where it thinks we need rural broadband subsidies,” Klein explained.
States had to go through 14 steps before they could begin installing broadband.
“Oh my f***ing G**!” Stewart exclaimed by the time Klein got to step 12.
Klein noted that groups within states were allowed to challenge where the rural broadband was built.
Stewart was confused as to who would challenge it in states.
“Well, you know, organized interest groups, environmental groups, like, I don’t know who specifically, but any, literally anybody,” Klein stated. “This is, I want to say something because it’s very important I say this, this is the Biden administration’s process for its own bill. They wanted this to happen. This is how liberal government works now.”
Klein finished all 12 steps to the Biden broadband program and left Stewart’s mind blown.
“I’m speechless, honestly. It’s far worse than I could have imagined. But the fact that they amputated their own legs on this is what’s so stunning,” Stewart said.
The government could have bought anyone who wanted internet Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet and got them online for far less money and hassle.
Democrats refuse to accept that anything involving the government becomes a boondoggle.
