A Pentagon office that played a role in the Russian collusion hoax closed
President Donald Trump is eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government.
He put a little-known office at the Pentagon on the chopping block that was involved in the Russian collusion hoax.
The Department of Defense announced the “disestablishment” of the Office of Net Assessment.
“As part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to strengthening our national defense, the Secretary of Defense has directed the disestablishment of the Office of Net Assessment (ONA) and the development of a plan to rebuild it in alignment with the Department’s strategic priorities,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.
Office of Net Assessment employees would be moved to “mission-critical roles.”
The agency was supposed to act as an in-house Pentagon think tank that planned for future conflicts.
Professor Stefan Halper was paid more than one million dollars by the Office of Net Assessment between 2012 and 2017.
Halper worked as a confidential informant for the FBI and took part in Operation Crossfire Hurricane – the FBI’s investigation into phony connections between Trump and Russia that began during the 2016 Election.
The professor used his position with the Office of Net Assessment to gain the confidence of Trump campaign official George Papadopoulos.
Papadopoulos was one of the first targets of the FBI in the Russian collusion hoax.
The then-73-year-old professor had worked for three Republican administrations and offered Papadopoulos $3,000 to produce a report on the Middle East for the Office of Net Assessment in 2016.
Halper offered to pay for the Trump campaign official to fly to London and stay for three days.
Papadopoulos met with Halper and one of his assistants, Azra Turk, who was actually an undercover FBI agent.
The meeting was set up by Halper to try and dig up dirt on the Trump campaign.
Papadopoulos was peppered with questions about the Trump campaign’s connection to Russia and the Russians’ alleged role in the 2016 hacking of the Democratic National Committee.
He denied that the Trump campaign had any connection to Russia.
The FBI used the Pentagon to create the Russian collusion hoax
A 2019 report from the Justice Department Inspector General found that Halper, the FBI, reprimanded for his behavior in the Russian collusion hoax.
The Office of Net Assessment denied paying Halper for his work as an FBI informant but admitted a lack of proper oversight.
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has sounded the alarm for years about the office using taxpayer money for work outside its mission.
He celebrated the office closing after investigating its misconduct for nearly a decade.
“After years raising Cain about the Office of Net Assessment’s failure to strengthen our national defense and its rampant abuse of taxpayer dollars, I’m thrilled to hear the news that President Trump is abolishing this wasteful and ineffective office,” Grassley said. “Praise the Lord. This wise move saves American taxpayers over 20 million dollars a year.”
