The military uses Stryker armored vehicles at the southern border
President Donald Trump has more than 10,000 active duty soldiers deployed at the southern border to help with border security.
The Department of Defense is providing the Border Patrol with more help by rolling out eight Stryker armored vehicles for use in West Texas.
One of the Strykers is being used to help with surveillance of the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez.
The city, across the border from El Paso, Texas, has become a hotspot for human smuggling and narcotics trafficking by the Mexican drug cartels.
“This is traditionally one of the busiest areas in the entire country,” U.S. Border Patrol Special Operations Supervisor Hamid Nikseresht told Fox News.
Strykers are being used to boost the surveillance capacity of the Border Patrol.
They have infrared cameras that allow them to spot humans from two miles away.
Army Sergeant Carlos Zamora said a Stryker would spot an illegal alien and then radio the Border Patrol.
“One of the main things that it provides is the surveillance capability with it,” Zamora explained. “Once anything pops up, we just call Border Patrol and then they roll up on us and make the arrest.”
A show of force at the border
The Stryker can operate day or night to give the Border Patrol an extra set of eyes in the field.
“Our purpose here is to support the Department of Homeland Security in their mission, and as we do that, we have our capabilities with our optics,” Army Lieutenant Colonel Chad Campbell. “We have both day and night optics. We can see pretty far.”
Illegal border crossings plummeted by 94% in February compared to the same period last year.
The Trump administration wants to use the presence of Strykers along the border to deter would-be border crossers.
Border Patrol agents are encountering fewer than 50 illegal aliens a day compared to more than 1,100 daily under Biden.
“The goal is zero,” Nikseresht said. “We’re not there yet, so we’re going to do everything we possibly can to get us to that point and bring in every resource we possibly can . . . What better way to send that message than to bring in a 55,000-pound armored vehicle with detection capabilities, maneuverability capabilities, force transportation capabilities that by far exceed anything else that we currently have in our repertoire?”
Illegal aliens are scared to cross the border because they fear they’ll be deported by the Trump administration.
“Let me tell you a story we just heard this morning,” Nikseresht explained. “Two people walked up to the fence as if they were getting ready to cross. They looked up the hill. They saw this massive vehicle sitting on top of the hill, and they turned around, and they walked away. You know what that says? That means cartels are scared. That means gangs are scared. They’re scared to come into the United States illegally. They’re scared to enter, because they know they will be detected, and they know there will be a consequence applied once they do.”
Donald Trump has dramatically improved the security at the southern border and he’s not letting up.
