Donald Trump stresses the need for Greenland for international security

President Donald Trump ruffled the feathers of the globalists after he declared his intent to acquire Greenland last year. 

Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, has a growing independence movement. 

Danish and Greenlandic politicians have pushed back against Trump’s interest in the country. 

The President warned that the Chinese and the Russians have a growing presence in the Arctic. 

“If you look at Greenland right now, if you look at the waterways, you have Chinese and Russian ships all over the place, and we’re not going to be able to do that,” Trump told reporters. 

The untapped natural resources of the Arctic have drawn the interest of the Chinese and the Russians. 

“We’re not relying on Denmark or anybody to take care of that situation,” Trump added. “And we’re not talking about peace for the United States, we’re talking about world peace, we’re talking about international security.” 

Greenland is home to rare earth metals, gemstones, oil, and natural gas. 

J.D. and Usha Vance travel to Greenland

Vice President J.D. Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) traveled to northwest Greenland to visit Pituffik Space Force Base – the northernmost American military base. 

The base conducts space surveillance operations and missile defense for North America. 

Vance addressed the Space Force soldiers serving at the base. 

“I want to bring a message from President Trump,” Vance said. “He’s grateful for your service, grateful for what you do up here, and just wanted me to tell you that he’s proud of you.”

Previously known as Thule Air Force Base, the base was founded in 1951 after an agreement between the United States and Denmark. 

“You are continuing a tradition of the U.S. military’s presence in Greenland since World War II,” Vance stated. “And President Trump is absolutely serious, with the vice president and his team, about the Arctic, and the security that the Arctic brings.”

The Second Lady originally planned to travel to Greenland on a cultural visit to see the island’s national dog sled race. 

Vance announced that he would be joining her because he didn’t want her to “have all that fun by herself.”

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was furious at the visit to Greenland by the Vances. 

“This is clearly not a visit that is about what Greenland needs or wants,” Frederiksen said. “Therefore, I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being put on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. And it’s a pressure we will stand against.”

A senior White House official defended the Vances trip to the island. 

“[The Vances] are embarking on a historic expedition with their visit to Greenland, where the Vice President will emphasize the importance of bolstering Arctic security in places like Pituffik Space Base,” the White House official said. “Unfortunately, Danish leaders have spent decades mistreating the Greenlandic people, treating them like second class citizens and allowing infrastructure on the island to fall into disrepair.”

Donald Trump isn’t backing off his pursuit to acquire Greenland despite the outrage.
