Biden EPA’s green energy slush fund scandal grows
The $1 trillion Inflation Reduction Act signed into law by former President Joe Biden in 2022 was the biggest green energy bill in history.
Biden officials used it as a green energy slush fund to distribute money to prominent Democrats and political allies.
The Biden Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund in 2023 to dole out more than $20 billion in grants for green energy and climate change projects.
Grants from this program all found their way into the hands of environmental activist groups controlled by major Democrat donors and activists.
The Coalition for Green Capital received $5 billion from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund for environmental justice projects that were supposed to benefit disadvantaged communities.
David Hayes, one of the group’s board members, served in the Biden administration as the Special Assistant to the President for Climate Policy until 2022.
He left the administration and joined the Coalition for Green Capital right before it got a $5 billion grant from the Biden EPA.
Donnel Baird joined the board of the group in 2022 after having worked for the Service Employees International Union, trying to elect former President Barack Obama in the 2012 Election.
He also worked with the Obama administration on green energy projects.
Baird worked for a scandal-plagued green energy group that made big promises it failed to deliver on before joining the Coalition for Green Capital.
Obama operative scammed a city with green energy
Baird founded BlocPower in 2014, fresh off his experience with the Obama administration, to decarbonize cities by replacing gas-powered appliances and heating.
The group struck a deal with the college town of Ithaca, New York, in 2021 to decarbonize more than 6,000 buildings.
“There’s a lot of expensive engineering and financial and workforce development costs,” Baird told Ithaca’s City Council in 2021. “Our job is to remove all of that friction.”
Ithaca became the first city in the nation to promise to electrify all of its buildings by 2030.
Baird talked a big game but never delivered.
“To me, the hardest part is done,” Baird told the Washington Post after Ithaca signed off on the project. “The hardest part is finding the city with the courage to make the commitment.”
BlocPower electrified 10 buildings in Ithaca before it vanished and ended its work with the city.
Ithaca residents were stunned at what the company wanted to charge them.
Dan Antonioli was quoted $135,000 for a 15-year lease on a heat pump from BlocPower.
That was more than five times what a local contractor was charging.
“I was not at all clear on how they were going to make this affordable,” Antonioli told WSKG. “Meaning, how are they going to bring the price down?”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris praised BlocPower as an “emerging leader” in green energy.
Baird left the company in 2024 after it failed to deliver for Ithaca.
The entire green energy industry is filled with failed companies that rake in government money without fulfilling their promises.
