Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has enjoyed rock star status among Democrats during his more than 25 years in the United States Senate.
He is currently the longest-serving U.S. Senator from New York.
Schumer has led the Senate Democrat Caucus since 2017 and served as Majority Leader from 2021 to 2025.
He clearly has a long history of being a champion for the Democrat Party.
But none of that matters to Democrats who are suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).
Schumer has been under fire from Democrats over his decision to avoid a government shutdown by agreeing to a vote on the Trump-supported Continuing Resolution (CR).
Protesters have rallied outside of Schumer’s offices and outside of his home in Brooklyn.
The same grassroots group that pushed for Joe Biden to exit the 2024 Presidential race is now calling on Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.
On Tuesday, Representative Glenn Ivey (D-MD) became the first House member to openly suggest that it’s time for Schumer to step aside.
“I respect Chuck Schumer, I think he had a great, long-standing career,” Ivey said at a town hall. “But I’m afraid that it may be time for the Senate Democrats to get a new leader.”
“Senate Democrats have to sit down and take a look and decide whether Chuck Schumer is the one to lead the moment,” Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said.
Schumer has defended his decision to avoid a government shutdown.
“I knew when I made this decision I’d get a lot of flack,” Schumer said on MSNBC. “I’m a smart politician, I can read what people want.”
He said a government shutdown “would have been the greatest disaster” of all time for the Party.
During an interview with CBS, Schumer responded to calls for him to step aside by stating that “I’m the best leader.”
“I’m the best leader for the Senate,” Schumer declared.
Schumer also addressed the calls for him to step aside during an appearance with the harpies on The View.
“Some of the progressive members of your caucus, the House caucus, are not with you,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said. “There seems to be a disconnect between the younger generation and some of the newly elected Democrats, and yours.”
“Do you believe that the party has confidence in you to continue to serve as its leader?” she asked Schumer. “And as somebody who was influential in helping Biden’s decision to step aside, do you think it might be time for you, too?”
Schumer instantly fired back with a resounding “No!”
“We have a lot of really strong talent in the Senate, in the House, in the governors, we have a great bench, but as for the Senate caucus, of which I’m the leader, I should be the leader,” he said.
Chuck Schumer may regret responding with arrogance.
Even if what he said is true, his colleagues are suffering from too severe of a case of TDS to understand it.
