The Border Patrol can finally do their job under Donald Trump
The goal of the Biden administration was to allow as many illegal aliens to enter the country as possible.
Border Patrol agents were pulled off patrol and used as glorified babysitters while they processed illegal aliens pouring into the country.
Former President Joe Biden reinstated the catch-and-release policy for illegal aliens that let them be released into the interior of the country while they waited on their immigration court hearing.
The Border Patrol’s mission changed when President Donald Trump returned to office.
San Diego Sector acting Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey Stalnaker told Fox News that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents are allowed to crack down on illegal border crossings after the change in administrations.
“We have changed from a posture of catch-and-release to providing maximum consequences to the greatest extent possible for anyone and everyone who crosses,” Stalnaker stated.
The Border Patrol shifted to apprehending illegal aliens who crossed the border.
“Once the new administration came in, we are able to exercise and provide consequences to the greatest extent, which then gets [illegal migrants] either jail time and/or provide them a repatriation to the country where they began their journey to the United States,” Stalnaker explained.
Letting the Border Patrol do their jobs pays dividends
Stalnaker described the handcuffs that the Biden administration placed on the Border Patrol.
“We were in a posture of catch and release . . . we would apprehend [illegal aliens], take them to our soft site facility, we would run checks on them, and then try to get them out of our facility as quickly as possible . . . release them with the notice to appear to go see an immigration judge,” Stalnaker recalled.
The Trump administration allowed the Border Patrol to enforce the law.
“The change now is we catch them, still take them to our soft side facility, however they are not being released, we are trying to find every consequence possible and deliver that consequence to them,” Stalnaker stated.
The San Diego Sector became the biggest hotspot for illegal immigration at the end of the Biden Presidency after Texas’ border security efforts caused illegal aliens to shift west.
Illegal border crossings have fallen dramatically in the sector after Trump returned to the White House.
Stalnaker credited the Trump administration for deploying the military to the southern border to help bring calm.
“We also have our DOD partners with us here,” Stalnaker said. “They’re a great partner, we enjoy having them out here, and the help they’re providing to us assists us with our mission.”
Nearly 500 Marines with Task Force Snapper were assigned to the San Diego Sector.
They’ve been putting up razor wire and helping reinforce barriers along the border.
“It’s a force multiplier, it assists us to accomplish our mission,” Stalnaker said about the military. “And it’s not just DOD, there are additional federal partners, state and local partners, we have extremely good partnerships here in the San Diego sector that act as force multipliers. And it’s that whole of government approach that it takes for us to accomplish our mission.”
The southern border has seen a 94% decline in illegal border crossings under Donald Trump because he let the Border Patrol do their job.
